Meta System Opto-Mechanical Prototyping Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Summary:

As a System Opto-Mechanical Prototyping Engineer at Meta, you will take a critical role in developing next generation AR systems. You will become part of a team translating new concepts through mechanical design and fast iterative prototyping into products. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design to high-volume consumer product solutions. We are looking for someone with a product mindset, who also is very comfortable working in a fast-pace rapid prototyping team, to join a new eye-tracking focused incubation team within our existing Display and Optics organization. While the role is focused on technology incubation for readiness into mass production, the ideal candidate will demonstrate prior mass-production experience and showcase their aptitude for developing to the standards required for launching a product. With this duality in role, it is important that the candidate can choose the right development methodology that is appropriate for the stage of development. I.E. when to be fast and loose and when to be diligent and rigorous. The candidate will be responsible for participating in developing new innovative approaches to solving complex design challenges that have direct impact on future AR products at Meta. The ideal candidate can demonstrate scrappiness and creativity when producing prototypes quickly to showcase an idea, or a particular solution. The ideal candidate needs to be aware of various rapid prototyping tools, such as 3D printing, and have the technical understanding of how to use them independently. You will work closely with product design engineers, display engineers, hardware engineers, process engineers, FEA simulation engineers, material scientists, project managers, validation engineers, product-operations, and international suppliers. Strong collaboration is necessary, and the ideal candidate will demonstrate their aptitude for bringing their diverse viewpoint to aid in the development of these innovative design approaches. We work at a fast pace with a group of highly self-motivated talents. The individual should demonstrate strong ability to continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise in new technology for AR display systems assembly, process design, manufacturing, and scalability.
