Laboratory/Pharmacy technician
Are you looking for a change in your veterinary career? Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital (https://www.portcityvet.com/) is seeking a Laboratory/Pharmacy Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. As an integral part of our team, you'll be at the forefront of providing exceptional care to our patients.
Your p rimary duties will include:
Follow hospital’s general policies and protocols
Report accurate and timely test results to deliver high quality patient care
Monitor and operate laboratory instrumentation
Ability to prepare samples (blood, tissue, urine, etc.) for external lab tests
Prepare and process laboratory blood samples utilizing Heska blood analyzers
Prepare & read platelet smears and report results to the appropriate DVM
Execute Blood type cross matches
Prepare & read various cytology samples (ear, urine, skin, etc.) and report results to the appropriate DVM
Ensure lab requisitions and results are accurately recorded within the hospital information system and patient records
Assure maintenance schedule of all laboratory equipment to meet hospital and vendor standards
Prepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted permitted by state law and in accordance to state law
Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection , prescription interpretation & entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution
Assure maintenance of the Lab/ Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order
Assist with drug inventory control
Follow appropriate hospital protocol for the dispensing and logging of controlled substances
Explain medications to the owners to assure they understand the doctor’s instructions using excellent customer service skills
Check prescription refill line, keeping daily log of requests and filling prescriptions daily
Manage the pharmacy log and ensure that refill requests are handled promptly
Schedule:
- Either four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts
Compensation:
$22 - $40 pending skills assessment leveling
About You:
1 or more years of veterinary medicine experience
Associates or Bachelors degree or CVT/LVT/RVT
Ability to run in house lab equipment including but not limited to blood analyzers, centrifuge, and microscope
Cytology skills
Demonstrated ability to build, develop and work within a team
You are proficient in using Microsoft Word and Outlook and have basic Microsoft Excel skills
You can multi-task and work within a fast-paced environment
You have excellent communication skills, are courteous to clients as well as communicate with doctors and technicians to maintain workflow and excellent patient care.
Have exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to perform basic drug calculations.
We are a 24-hour, 365 day per year hospital, a minimum of two holiday shifts per year and the ability to work a rotating weekend schedule is required
