Nuclear Fuel Services Director, Operations in Oakville, Ontario

We are recruiting for a Director, Operations for our facility in Oakville, Ontario.

JOB PURPOSE:

To direct the Operations of BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc (Oakville). To maximize BWXT profits through the controlled investment in people, materials and equipment while ensuring commitments to safety, customer schedule and quality standards. quality standards.

This position reports to the VP, Components and has direct leadership of Shop Operations with the following direct reports Production, Operational Process, Program Management.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Promote a safety culture that puts safety above all other requirements.

  • Develop strong relationships with customers and vendors, as necessary.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction, as well as create and develop plans to improve.

  • Ensure compliance to customer and BWXT quality standards in all operations.

  • Achieve structural schedule and delivery commitments.

  • Plan complex manufacturing efforts (process, plant, equipment, capacity, people, and capacity analysis).

  • Provide direction and support to department managers in daily activities. This includes: Production, Program Management and Operational Process.

  • Direct the machining and welding of BWXT products, ensuring the manufacturing processes, systems, and finished products are consistent with respective code requirements and customer specifications.

  • Direct the development and preparation of machining and welding schedules for manufactured products to ensure effective production control.

  • Provide leadership and coaching to the operations management team, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and skills development.

  • Work with department leaders to ensure manufacturing processes, systems and finished products are in line with quality, code and customer specifications.

  • Make decisions or negotiate terms where there may be little interest in cooperating or participating.

  • Evaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed.

  • Responsible for achieving targeted milestones, according to established objectives, and develop or maintain internal control systems to ensure accountability.

  • Manage project execution activities within manufacturing to ensure cost effective outcomes.

  • Review current production methods and costs and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Develop, update & maintain favorable cost center budgets. Participation in quarterly budget reviews. Manage costs, including analysis trending and improvements.

  • Review load-boards and establish cost center work-force requirements.

  • Ensure onboarding and training processes are efficient and effective.

  • Achieve or surpass yearly established revenue commitments.

  • Use established metrics to ensure performance targets are met and work with Leadership to create new measurements as needed.

  • Direct proper implementation of new manufacturing techniques, methods, systems, equipment, and facilities to promote continuous process improvement as well as cost reduction and quality enhancements.

  • Work within BWXT policies, ensuring effective labour planning is completed to meet production requirements and support employee relations.

  • Drive continuous improvement employing a variety of manufacturing tools including lean six sigma.

  • Continuously communicate and embody the company vision and values.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other technical area combined with a broad business background or equivalent.

  • 15 years' experience in a precision manufacturing, OEM environment. CNC Machining background an asset.

  • Previous experience with nuclear power generation products an asset.

  • Excellent knowledge of, and commitment to, quality and safety programs.

  • Superior ability to plan complex manufacturing efforts (process, plant, equipment, capacity, people, and capacity analysis).

  • Excellent management, leadership and coaching skills, with experience in motivating large, diverse groups to success.

  • Proven success as problem solver and decision-maker.

  • Excellent relationship building, communication and presentation skills.

  • Successful track record in planning, executing, and achieving strategic growth plans.

  • Ability to collaborate, form strong relationships with team members, and build comradery and cohesion in teams to ensure they are working toward common goals.

  • Successful track record leading positive cultural change and organizational effectiveness.

  • Strong leadership skills with an emphasis on clear directions and accountability.

    The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $133,000 and $184,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
