The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is responsible for facilitating the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Agile Release Training (ART) processes and program execution, escalating impediments, managing risks, and helping drive program-level relentless improvement on the Digital E-Commerce team.

This is a hybrid role, meaning you have to be willing to come into our Grand Rapids, MI office location Monday - Wednesday. Relocation Assistance is available to those who are willing to relocate to Michigan.

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Provide management and guidance for the Agile Release Train (ART) relating to utilization of Agile practices and how to best ensure successful execution of Program Objectives.

  • Work with all team members and stakeholders to achieve alignment.

  • Collaborate with other RTE’s to ensure delivery of program level objectives across the business.

  • Driving delivery of train value and reporting on the value achieved.

  • Provides broad oversight to ART capacity, budgets, and costs to ensure valuation optimization including tracking, reporting, and communication to leadership.

  • Schedule and facilitate key train ceremonies including Pre- and Post- Program Increment (PI) planning, PI planning, Scrum of Scrums, and ART Sync meetings.

  • Continuously improve and facilitate innovation on the train by leveraging the Innovation and Planning Sprint, Inspect & Adapt, and Train Retrospectives.

  • Aggregate ART teams’ objectives into Program PI Objectives.

  • Provide Agile coaching to all members of the ART, as needed, to ensure proper program execution and program/feature grooming, including guidance on work breakdown for user stories, prioritization, estimation of work, evaluation of team velocity, decision-making, resourcing, removing impediments, and ultimately, delivery of value.

  • Assess the Scaled Agile maturity of the team and coach the team to attain higher levels of maturity.

  • Assist with internal and external communication and improve transparency of information and decisions.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of education and related experience, required.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Organizational Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.

  • Any Scrum Master certification.

  • Any SAFe certifications or training and experience.

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer training.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in an IT role, with a minimum of 3 years in SAFe Agile environment.

  • Experience performing the Scrum Master role for a minimum of one year.

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of or experience with an enterprise SAFe Agile process. This includes tools and techniques, including Kanban boards, user story writing, burndown techniques, and retrospective facilitation.

  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.

  • Team level experience collaborating to deliver business value.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile software development processes and techniques.

  • Familiarity with secure code design principles and practices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills.
