Manager opportunity for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Education Programs

Looking for a dynamic leader to guide our ALS team to new heights. This leader will be adaptable, enthusiastic, and creative to keep the life saving skills education accessible for our healthcare providers. This person will manage all American Heart Association; American Academy of Pediatrics (NRP) and Crisis Prevention Institute training courses, scheduling, space, budgeting, and faculty. Strong advocacy and relational leadership skills are required to collaborate across disciplines and promote change and innovation.

Summary:

This position is responsible for managing the Advanced Life Support programs at UNC Hospitals.

Responsibilities:

  1. Accreditation Issues - Ensures that internal and external regulatory standards or nursing practice are met or exceeded. This includes organizational policy and procedures as well as state, JCAHO, Board of Nursing and other specified accrediting bodies. Integrate current scientific evidence with standards of practice.

  2. Adv Life Support Program - Develops, coordinate, teach and promote the Advance Life Support Programs at UNC Hospitals. Ensures that appropriate services are available to staff. Supervises team of professionals / paraprofessionals which may include nursing staff, health unit coordinators, nursing assistants and utility aides.

  3. Budget Management - Effectively uses clinical and financial information to establish and meet budgetary goals. Implements strategies to increase revenue and cost-effectively manage personnel, supply, and equipment resources. Evaluates the impact of strategic fiscal changes on quality outcomes.

  4. Education - Creates an educational environment conducive to student learning, staff continuing education, and orientation of new staff members. Accountable for annual competency evaluation of staff that ensures staff has the knowledge and skills to care for the specified patient population.

  5. Human Resource Management - Effectively manages human resources. Creates an environment conducive to recruiting and retaining staff. Applies organizational policy and procedures in hiring, promoting, transferring and terminating staff. Provides staff with annual performance feedback and opportunity to set professional goals. Integrates scientific evidence regarding retention of nursing staff into unit planning.

  6. Quality Improvement - Leads and participates in quality improvement initiatives that focus on identified patient safety or quality of care deficits.

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree required.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Certified at instructor level in two (2) of the following disciplines and be eligible to become instructor status in the remaining discipline: 1) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification, 2) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, and 3) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in a high fidelity Emergency Medical Services system, in a hospital critical care unit, emergency department or inpatient psychiatry unit.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

● Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office package with emphasis on Excel and Word
