The Radiation Oncology department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) offers the latest therapies and treatments with state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained professionals for the treatment and management of cancer and other health conditions in a patient-centered environment. Our multidisciplinary team consists of board certified physicians, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and an array of administrative support staff that are dedicated to providing care in a collaborative team approach. The Radiation Oncology team works closely with colleagues in the Departments of Surgery and Medical Oncology to ensure that all patients receive the very best care.


· Sign on bonuses are paid out in two payments. You will receive your first payment (half of the total amount) within the first 30 days of employment and is subject to applicable taxes. You will receive the second payment (remaining balance) at six (6) months following your start date and is subject to applicable taxes.

· Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week. Please note, per diem employees are not eligible for sign on bonuses.

· Current and Former BILH candidates - restrictions apply. BIDMC Internal employees or employees within the BILH system are not eligible for the bonus or if you have been employed by a BILH entity within the last 12 months.

Job Description:

Job Summary: Under the leadership of the Lead Radiation Therapist, this position is responsible for ensuring quality patient care and facilitating the daily operations of the assigned clinical treatment machines at the BIDMC Radiation Therapy department. Work requires independent thinking, strong technical skills and the ability to problem solve un-supervised in a safe and effective manner, while ensuring efficiency in the daily operations. Collaborates with ohter team leaders to identify areas for improvement and participate in special projects as requested.

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide patient education in order to maximize patient compliance with his/her plan of care and provide family education when needed. Responsible for efficient operation of the assigned clinical treatment machine. Serves as a resource to department personnel to resolve clinical issues; patient related.

Self-coordinates daily activities of schedule to ensure quality treatment delivery and maximum utilization of equipment and personnel. Instructs new therapists in the following areas: treatment protocols, quality assurance and improvement policies and practices. Works with Physician and Therapist staff to triage emergent cases and negotiate scheduling of patients.

Self manages during equipment failures and facilitates machine down procedures in a professional and safe manner. Documents treatment delivery information and records treatment variances using the appropriate incident reporting tool.

Participates in specialty areas such as, but not limited to, Clinical Instruction of Radiation Therapy Technology Students, Linac based SRS/SBRT,CT Simulation, Cyberknife, HDR, and our on-call program. Participates in Departmental and Therapist Staff meetings. Demonstrates the ability to represent the Therapists while provide technical support when necessary.

Assists the Lead Therapist with efficient clinical operations of the assigned area. Including performing daily QA measurements of all imaging and treatment equiptment. Confirms new patients and cone down plans are ready in a timely fashion.

Assumes managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Therapist.

Maintains and can provide annual documentation of the required amount of Continuing Education Credits needed for licensure.

Acts as a representative of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Radiation Oncology and is cooperative and responsive to all staff with fair judgement.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required.

License MA RadTech-RadThrpy required., and Registration American Registry of Rad Tech required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.

3-5 years related work experience required in as a Radiation Therapist. (Internal candidates follow the career ladder for radiation therapists).

Must be a graduate of JCRT accredited institution/program in Radiation Therapy

Associates degree will be accepted for candidates that graduated prior to 2000.

Experience with advanced imaging techniques using state of the art equipment. Adapt quickly to change, troubleshoots technical problems, and remain calm in stressful situations. Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently. Must be able to multitask and prioritize appropriately. Must work cohesively to coordinate continuing education activites and retraining/orienting of staff

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Varain Truebeams, CT Simulation, Brachytherapy, Cyberknife, on-call and, Mosaiq record and verify.

Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
